Both Slovenian World Cup winners at this season’s World Cup in Koper

After the huge crowds, great atmosphere, and further Slovenian medals at last year's event, the World Cup circuit returns to Koper once again. We'll see a strong Slovenian team with as many as twenty-one climbers, headed by Janja Garnbret and Vita Lukan, who both have World Cup wins under their belt this season.

World Cup event with the best Slovenian sport climbers at the new venue in Koper

After twenty-five years of organizing elite-level sport climbing events in Kranj, the next World Cup will be held in the coastal town of Koper. This year, for the first time ever, the 26th World Cup event will be held at the outside wall of the Koper - Plus Climbing centre on the 2nd and 3rd September 2022. As many as 123 climbers from twenty-four countries will take part, including the 17-strong Slovenian team with the European champion Janja Garnbret.

Second win for Janja Garnbret in Kranj and first podium for Luka Potočar

Olympic gold medallist Janja Garnbret won the 31st World Cup gold medal of her career and her second at the IFSC Lead World Cup Kranj. Young Luka Potočar, who's having an excellent season, claimed his first podium finish. "From the semi-finals on, the Zlato Polje Sports Hall hosted another wonderful event. Six Slovenians in the finals! That's truly incredible," said Luka Fonda, Slovenia Climbing Team coach.

Sport Climbing: Lučka Rakovec Claims Bronze in Kranj

Slovene sport climbing fans had an intense weekend, with the arrival of the IFSC Lead Climbing World Cup to Kranj. The competition landed in Slovenia with a wide range of possibilities ahead. Before this weekend, on women’s competition Chaehyun Seo from Korea was leading the way with two victories, while local hero Janja Ganrbret closely followed in the second place in the overall ranking.

The IFSC World Cup 2018 is going to take place for the 24rd time in Kranj sports hall Zlato polje (Golden field). On 28 and 29 September you can come in person and loudly encourage Slovenian sport climbing heroes and meet the best sport climbers from around the world. Due to the large number of competitors, we have had to adjust the competition schedule so that the qualifications are going to be on Saturday, September 28, and the semi-finals and finals on Sunday, September 29, 2019.

Janja Garnbret & Mia Krampl Get Gold & Silver in Lead in Hachioji

Slovenia swept the women's lead discipline event at the IFSC Climbing World Championships in Japan's Hachioji on Thursday with Janja Garnbret taking another gold and Mia Krampl silver. This is the second gold medal for Garnbret at this championships after she defended the title of bouldering world champion on Tuesday, and her fifth world championship gold medal overall.

Stefano Ghisolfi of Italy and Jain Kim of Korea returned to the top of the IFSC World Cup podium at the 5th Lead event of 2018 in Kranj, Slovenia. Slovenian finalists Janja Garnbret and Mina Markovič were second and 8th.

Kranj, hosting Lead World Cup events since 1996, again plays a pivotal role in the Lead season this year. Lead athletes are competing for positioning in the season rankings before the two concluding events in October, and performances in Kranj could decide final podiums. Among 126 competitors there are going to be 16 Slovenian climbers.

The sport climbing spectacle in Kranj will commence with a lecture by one of the best climbers of all time, who has recently set a new benchmark in sport climbing by completing a route rated at 9c. The Czech Adam Ondra, a three-time world champion and a winner of multiple World Cups, is one of the nicest and most approachable people in elite climbing. You are invited to listen to his stories from the vertical on Thursday, 9 November 2017, at 19:00 at Cineplexx Kranj. The lecture will be in English.

The final competition of the World Cup in Lead will be held in Kranj for the 22nd time, again promising a truly spectacular sport climbing event. You are invited on 11 and 12 November to come and loudly support our heroines and heroes, and to meet the best climbers from all over the world. The tickets are already available at Eventim sales points, at the seat of Planinska zveza Slovenije in Ljubljana are going to be on purchase after 24 October.

Slovenia wins three medals at European Climbing Championships

Slovenia's Janja Garnbret won silver in the women's bouldering competition at the European Climbing Championships in Munich on 19th August to secure gold in a combined score of three disciplines. Anže Peharc rounded off her feat by taking bronze in the men's bouldering competition.

Slovenia's Markovič second at European Climbing Championships

Slovenian Mina Markovič won on Saturday the silver medal in the women's lead climbing competition at the European Climbing Championships in Italy's Campitello. This is medal number seven for Markovič at the European championships, the most among all Slovenian competitors ever.
